    Paramita Bhandari, a student of English Literature at Vivekananda College in DakshinAlipur, South 24 Parganas,is a talented singer and has completed her third year in Nazrul-Geeti and fifth year in Rabindra-Sangeet, braving a heart and nose condition. Paramita needs immediate surgery, but her family is struggling to garner the necessary funds for the procedure. The pain and discomfort affect her concentration and hinder her music practice, but Paramita is still game to soldier on and improve her singing prowess.

    Somen Dutta

    Somen Dutta, who has been suffering from glaucoma since he was 6 months old, is one of the most accomplished among Anant scholars. A History Honours student in Narendrapur Ramakrishna Residential Mission College, Somen’s family income is a meagre Rs 3,000 per month. Yet, it has not deterred him from pursuing his special interests. He has participated in the All-India Elocution Competition, the Environmental Campaign 2005-2006 and the All-Bengal Cultural Competition, to name a few. Despite the severe handicap of vision, he can play the violin and has performed in front of Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. He also has an active interest in theatre. Somen is a well-read individual and is well-opinionated on issues like post-modernism.

    Kunal Chakraborty

    Kunal Chakraborty , getting the scholarship from-2011, is a part of the All Star Association which planted 300 Akashwani trees in public spaces and sidewalks. They managed to save 200 of these trees which are now growing healthily, conserving soil and providing shelter to the passers-by. Kunal, who wants to be a teacher, is doing his Teacher Training course in Shyampur Siddheshwari Mahavidyalaya.

    Arup Mandal, a scholarship recipient from 2011, has a courageous heart and a brilliant mind. Thanks to his presence of mind and fearless attitude, he could save the life of a child who had fallen into a well. Arup is studying English Literature with Honours in Acharya Prafulla Chandra College.

    Farheen Arshad

    Farheen Arshad, a student of Microbiology in Scottish Church College, is a bright student and a true all-rounder. She has over 42 medals in various spheres like sports, dance and debating. She has been the best NCC cadet in her school, a house captain and much more. Her grades are top-notch and she dreams of going abroad for further studies in Microbiology, if her health permits. Farheen is suffering from a disease in the brain (NCC) which leads to frequent loss of consciousness. Nonetheless, she is strong-willed and is continuing her studies solely with the support of the scholarship she receives from Anant. Her father is a poor hawker, unable to provide enough funds for her education.

    Prita Bali

    Prita Bali, who studies Economics in Ashutosh College, is a young and enterprising journalist who has interviewed superstars like Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and many more. She has covered many events and has reviewed various films, songs and books for TTIS (The Telegraph in Schools). Prita is also qualified to become an art teacher with legal authorisation and has completed all the seven levels at Prachin Kala Kendra. She has won the all-India drawing competition organized by Camlin as well and has designed many original pieces of jewelry.

    Md. Tausif Ali

    Md. Tausif Ali, a Chemistry Honours student in Maulana Azad College, has always been interested in general knowledge and was placed second in the inter-district quiz competition. He wants to create a forum to stop child labour. Tausif has been receiving the scholarship from 2011.

    Biswarup Dey, besides being a very bright student of Accounts & Finance in the B.Com stream of Ashutosh College, also regularly participates in district-level recitation competitions.

    Swarnadip Ghosh

    Swarnadip Ghosh from Shyamnagar, North 24 Parganas, has an exceptional brain for math and statistics and studies B.Stat in Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), which is the best institute for pursuing his interest in statistics. He is an active participant in quiz competitions and debates but his father’s meagre income can hardly support his studies. So he gives tuitions to younger students to fund his academics and garner his hostel fees. Swarnadip has been getting the Anant scholarship since 2011.

    Sharmishtha Chakraborty

    Sharmishtha Chakraborty has kept her chin up in the face of continued adversity. Her father suffers from paralysis and his medical bills alone come to Rs 8,000, but Sharmishtha hasn’t given up her favourite pursuits in spite of the family’s crippling financial condition. The Food & Nutrition student from Viharilal College of Home Science was awarded the first prize in a computer drawing competition organised by the Maheshtala Municipality. She participated in Bigyan Mancha and Bhugol Mancha and has been a part of the renowned theatre group Pancham Vaidik fronted by Saoli Mitra.

    Washim Firoj

    Washim Firoj, son of a farmer, had to take a loan of Rs 25,000 from a zamindar for completing his education from class 5 to 12.They had to mortgage their land for the amount and will get their land back only when they have repaid the entire loan. He now studies Physics Honours at Barasat Govt. College and has been receiving the Anant scholarship from 2011.

    Azmal Baidya

    Azmal Baidya, a Zoology Honours student in Sree Chaitanya College, is another braveheart. He lost his mother when he was very young, and his father suffers from paralysis. He still manages to keep the household running alongside his studies, through his zeal and perseverance and with a little help from Anant.

    Biju Halder

    Biju Halder, who hails from Gouranganagar in North 24 Parganas, is a tenacious multi-tasker. Due to acute financial crisis, he had to drop out of school and take up a job as a housekeeper to earn for his family. Later on, he left the job of a housekeeper and got himself admitted into another school, but still works as a carpenter, while continuing his studies. Biju is a student of History Honours in Vidyasagar College and has been receiving the Anant scholarship since 2011.

    Bulti Das

    Bulti Das, a Math Hons. student from Amta Ramsaday College, understands the perils of lack of proper medical facility and wants to open a health centre in her village. The need for such a centre was put in sharp focus before her after she saved the life of a child.

    Debargha Biswas

    Debargha Biswas, an Electrical Engineering student in Jadavpur University, has a sharp mind and was placed 3rd in the ISI TECH QUIZ, a team event. He has also obtained an AIR of 190 in Class XI and 253 in Class XII in the second round of the International Mathematics Olympiad. The boy from Lake Town has been getting the Anant scholarship since 2011.

    Rama Kundu

    Rama Kundu, a Philosophy Honours student in Krishnagar Government College, has the gift of creativity. She makes toys and handicrafts for extra income to support her family and education. She is good at recitation and secured third position in a recitation competition held by the West Bengal Forest Department.

    Sulata Basak studies English Literature with Honours in Barasat Govt College and has a yen for creative writing. She is also a district-level prose champion and stitches clothes at home when she is not studying to provide income and support for the family. Sulata is getting her scholarship from 2011.

    Sambrita Ghatak studies Physics in Scottish Church College. He takes a keen interest in current affairs and has very good general knowledge. He has represented his college in various quiz competitions.

    Priyasa Koley, studying Math in Scottish Church College, has bagged numerous medals for her yoga abilities. But she is not the type to rest on her laurels and continues to practise diligently to achieve perfection. Priyasa has been receiving the scholarship from 2011.

    Saraswati Das is a student of Geography Honours in Mrinalini Datta Mahavidyapith, who thinks differently and wants to be a fashion designer. She has been getting the scholarship from 2011.

    Rahul Gazi is a good student pursuing Sanskrit in Ramkrishna Mission Vivekananda University. He is the winner of the state-level Sanskrit competition and has been selected for the national-level championship. He has been getting his scholarship from 2011.

    Md. Abu Bakar Ashraf is a hardworking and determined scholar who has completed two levels of CA even though he is in the 2nd year of his B.Com Honours course, pursuing Accounts & Finance. Due to financial constraints, he had to complete schooling from an Urdu-medium school, even though he has little knowledge of Urdu.

    Shamsi Zarrin, a Political Science student in Surendranath College for Women, has been receiving the Anant scholarship since 2011. She is a serious student of politics and has a mind of her own. She believes in her own version of Communism which could bring about beneficial changes to the society. She has written an article on Indian Security and wants to join a Left political party so that she can practise her idea of Communism.

    Kushal Kayal studies Chemistry Honours in Shyampur Siddheshwari Mahavidyalaya. He came first in the inter-school recitation competition at the district level, besides winning various other competitions. Kushal has been receiving the Anant scholarship from 2011.
